School Camps

Year 4 Camp at Carnyorth Outdoor Education Centre

This year in April, our Y4 pupils headed west, deeper into Cornwall to Carnyorth, near St Just staying in the O.Ed Centre with views towards the Atlantic Ocean.

The pupils took part in a variety of outdoor activities which included orienteering, team building, fire lighting, climbing, archery and Miner's Cluedo (which led the pupils on a trail to different parts of Levant Tin Mine and along the coast path).

All involved developed new skills, showed resilience and perseverance, as well as building on their previous History knowledge of Cornish Tin Mining.

Year 3 Residential in Bristol

In May, our Y3 pupils travelled to Bristol for their camp. Staying in a youth hostel in the centre of the city was a completely contrast to Cornwall.

Following a topic on Railways, the Year 3 pupils had the opportunity to see the work of Isambard Kingdom Brunel for themselves. The three days were packed with a variety of different experiences which included a visit to the M-Shed Museum, a boat ride, a workshop and tour of the SS Great Britain, sketching in Millennium Square and a walk to Cabot Tower.

Though perhaps the most exciting activity was a tour of the quays of Bristol led by Pirate Pete where they learnt about the haunts and history of past swashbucklers and buccaneers, ending the experience with the discovery of pirate treasure.

Year 5 Residential in Bath

The Y5 pupils spent their camp in Bath at the end of May. They took in the cultural sights and built on the learning they had done earlier in the year in History on the fall of Rome.

As well as spending time in the Roman Baths, they took part in a variety of different experiences from a fudge-making workshop to climbing the steps to the top of the Abbey tower; from playing crazy golf in Victoria Park to an open-top bus tour both in and around the city; from exploring the gardens and lakes of Prior Park to eating pizza or pasta in an Italian restaurant.

All the pupils enjoyed this cultural experience. Here are some of the things they had to say:

The Fudge Kitchen was heaven! (Bertie)

I enjoyed the views from the top of Bath Abbey. (Violet)

Learning about the history of The Roman Baths was very fascinating. (Riley)

I really enjoyed visiting Prior Park as it was a beautiful setting with lovely views. (Laura)

Year 1/2 Camp - A Sleepover and Porthpean Activity Day

At the start of June, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils took part in a sleepover in the school hall before departing the next morning for a day of watersports and beach-based activities at Porthpean O.Ed Centre.

Once everyone was kitted out in wetsuits and buoyancy aids, the pupils learned the skills they would need for the kayaks, canoes and giant SUPs that were awaiting them.

In groups, they set out on an epic adventure across the sea in search of the secret Dragon's cave and hidden beach. Not only did they achieve their goal, but they encountered seals on the way.

It was certainly an adventure to remember and bravery, resilience and perseverance was shown by all.

Year 6 Camp to the Isles of Scilly

In July, the Y6 pupils travelled to the Isles of Scilly, setting off on the ferry from Penzance early on the Monday morning. The voyage was made even more special by the appearance of dolphins swimming beside them.

Time was spent exploring St Mary's and some of the other islands. Other activities include time on the adventure playground at the Garrison and swimming in the pool which was in walking distance of the campsite.
