Our Staff

Mrs Emma Vyvyan

I joined the St Columb Major Academy community in May 2021 and it is a privilege to be Headteacher of such a happy, hard working and successful school. My teaching career started in 1998 and I’ve been lucky enough to teach in many different schools across Cornwall.

My passion is to ensure children feel safe, inspired and enjoy ambitious learning opportunities, encouraging them to be lifelong students and aim for their dreams – whether it be an astronaut, a footballer, a vet or a train driver. I believe it’s also important to explore new ideas, experience different things and understand kindness, respect, acceptance around similarities and differences within our communities. I believe every moment matters and every little thing makes a difference.

I have a background in SEN support, understanding behaviour and am often asked to work with schools, training and working with staff to help make school a more successful place for children’s learning.

Mostly you will find me outdoors when not at school, either in a boat rowing, swimming in the sea, cycling, jogging or relaxing with my family (being a taxi to take my own children to their sporting hobbies too). I grew up in Cornwall and think it a fantastic place to be, to learn about and to experience.

My name is Miss Drake,
I have lived in Cornwall all my life and feel very privileged to as well. I have a cat called Evie and even though we try to teach her things, she definitely rules our house! I absolutely love the coast and everything to do with it; the beaches, the landscapes (with the tin mines) and especially the wildlife. I have a marine biology degree and enjoy sharing my knowledge about the marine wildlife with the children, possibly inspiring them to care and love the coast as much as I do! Most weekends you will find me out and about, walking and exploring. I also enjoy listening to music as well as playing the trumpet. I can’t wait to meet you all and I am sure we will have an awesome time this year, learning lots whilst having fun.
See you soon!
